James Homes & Hospitality is a family’s labor of love. We’re a boutique firm that invests in residential properties that align with our values in Denver, Austin and Raleigh-Durham. We also transform properties into luxury rentals for home-away-from-home vacation experiences. But most importantly, we donate a portion of our net proceeds to The James Initiative, and then those funds are distributed annually to local organizations that support suicide prevention and education, LGBTQ+ advancement, and homelessness.

JAMES’ STORY

A self-made man who literally built his business with his own hands, James Gibson was the best custom-home builder in the D.C. Metro area. He began his career as a real estate agent, and soon after found his passion with remodeling and flipping homes – eventually founding Gibson Builders, an exemplary custom-home-building company. A man who worked from sunrise to sunset, James was known for integrity, attention-to-detail, and high-quality builds. He was also a mentor to his employees, an industry leader to his peers, and an infinite source of inspiration to me, his niece.

My Uncle Jim took his life July 29th, 2017. After months of mourning his death and celebrating his legacy, my wife Xan and I began talking quite seriously about what we wanted to do with our lives and how we might honor Jim through our work. Our venture into vacation rentals and real estate development is foundationally built on the practical things Uncle Jim taught us. But he lives on through our company and our mission.

We started with the name. And a logo traced from James’ signature in a card he wrote us shortly after our wedding. But naming our company after him wasn’t enough. We wanted to reach those who struggle silently in hopeless isolation like he did, so we made suicide education and prevention a cornerstone of our giving efforts. By giving a portion of our rentals and development profits to local outreach organizations, we can start to effect change in his memory.
